TiNi™ Optical Shutter

High Load Holding Capability and Fast Actuation Time

The EBAD TiNi™ Optical Shutter was first developed for SWRi (South West Research Institute) for the New Horizons mission to Pluto. It provides a simple and effective means to let light into sensitive instruments. The aperture cover is opened on command and may be manually reset to support ground testing.

NEA (Non-Explosive Actuators) – As with all EBAD TiNi™ products, the Shutter is non-pyrotechnic and field reset-able with a minimum qualified life of 100 cycles.

Field Reset-able and Reliable – The Shutter is reset by simply re-cocking the gate that is used to cover the aperture.  This is accessed from the side of the Actuator and may be operated with a simple tool provided.

Redundant Firing Circuit – As with all EBAD TiNi™ Actuators a redundant SMA circuit is incorporated. This provides complete electrical redundancy as well as mechanical redundancy for the critical trigger element.

Fast Acting – By directly passing current through the SMA element, EBAD TiNi™ Shutters perform in millisecond time frame making them ideal for time sensitive applications that also require low power consumption.

Auto Shut-Off Switches – Simple Auto Shut Off Switches are incorporated into each Shutter to protect the Trigger.  This makes them very “user friendly” and operable from a wide range of current and voltages.

The SOC-1342 comes in a low profile package that minimizes the overall envelop.   It can be operated with as little as 0.5 amps and is fast acting.   As with all TiNi  products, key attributes include:
